As I am creating this article, Christmas 2019 is right around the corner. One of the most popular gifts for doll and toy collectors around this time is reborn baby dolls. I have gotten the question asked a couple of times, “What can I do to prepare for my first reborn baby?” or “What items should I buy to take care of my first reborn doll?” Today, I am going to answer those questions!
What is most important to remember when receiving your first reborn doll, is that they are collectible works of art. They are to be handled with care in order for them to last a long time. In general, you only need basic necessities such as a soft washcloth, to keep your doll clean and dust free. However, the fun of reborn dolls is dressing them up and showing them off to family/friends or taking photos of them to share. With that being said, here are some of the things that I purchase to enjoy my dolls even more!
Having a safe place to store or display your doll is one of the most important things as an owner of a reborn baby. I recommend planning ahead of time of where you’d like to place your doll so it is not in harms way. You never want to leave your doll in direct sunlight, in freezing temperatures or near pets that can damage it.
The style of clothing is completely up to you in what you decide to dress your doll in, however, to have options I like to choose one of each item:
- play outfit
- dressy outfit
- pajamas/ sleeper
- long /short sleeve onesie
Accessories can vary depending on your budget. These extras can also depend on the gender of your doll. Accessories that I often purchase are:
- baby blanket
- pacifier/paci clip
- scratch mittens
These are just some of the items that I enjoy buying for each of my dolls. You do not need these things, but they do add to the fun and excitement of owning a reborn baby doll. You can shop inexpensively by browsing local thrift stores and purchasing items from clearance sections of your favorite stores! Next time, I’ll talk about some luxury reborn baby items!
