Happy Friday, dollie lovers! The first month of the new year is almost over and I am so excited to share that I’ve already secured my first new doll of the year. It wasn’t quite planned, yet it fit into my budget so I took the plunge! With that being said, I wanted to talk about buying ball jointed dolls on a budget.
Recently I posted about my doll collection plans for this year. I really want to stick to them as not to make any unnecessary purchases or be impulsive. With a new year, usually comes financial goals for a lot of doll collectors. Some are saving up for a new doll and some are recovering from this past holiday’s shenanigans. Whichever the case may be for you, there is still options on how to get your next holy grail doll.
I previously talked about buying new vs. second hand BJDs, but these option can go even further in depth. If you’re set on purchase a ball jointed doll that is new, I highly recommend exploring BJD dealers in your country that offer layaway plans. For me, there are a few USA dealers that offer various BJD brands and have layaway options: Denver Doll Emporium, Fabric Friends and Dolls, and BJDivas. Each company has their own rules when it comes to their layaway payment options, so be sure to read them carefully. If you have questions, I highly recommend contacting them via e-mail.
A New Addition To My Resin Family
In the later part of 2019, my favorite BJD company, LUTS, hosted their annual Winter Event sale. During these special sale periods, customers can purchase limited edition doll sculpts, specialty resin skin colors and be awarded free merchandise based off the amount they spend during the event. Cool, right?! LUTS offered dolls in a strawberry pink color and I so desperately wanted one! Being able to get my cat girl (Model Delf Lio) in pink would be a dream 🙂
There are no example dolls shown on the LUTS website, as my order would a mix-and-match MyChoice option. I decided to do some Photoshop magic with images of the doll head and body that I wanted together. Here are my results and I couldn’t be happier! I’m pretty excited for this uniquely one-of-a-kind doll.
After a bit of research on DoA Forum, I realized my dream could be reality with starting a layaway. Several forum members could contest that their experience with BJDivas and their extensive/flexible layaway options was great. After contacting the company and asking a few questions, I promptly set up my layaway plan over SIX MONTHS! Isn’t that amazing (and affordable)! I am also able to pay it off sooner, if my doll arrives before the end of the layaway terms. Sweet! Now the wait begins for my new addition!
